The effectiveness of personal involvement in the future development and progress of the Tuscaloosa County community can be enhanced through increased knowledge of the area’s economic, social, historical and political issues and needs. It is the intent of Leadership Tuscaloosa to provide a foundation of such knowledge that potential leaders can use to aid their involvement and success in community endeavors.

 

Our goal is to make each selected participant more aware of and sensitive to the wide range of needs and opportunities in the community through shared experiences with a cross section of highly capable fellow citizens.

Leadership Tuscaloosa has proven to be an unique, meaningful experience and you will gain from your involvement with the ultimate beneficiary being the community.

The Tuscaloosa area is a wonderful place to live and work. Leadership Tuscaloosa will play an increasing role in shaping the positive direction of many individuals inclined toward making our community even better.

The 2005-2006 Leadership Tuscaloosa Program will consist of various one day sessions over a nine month period beginning with an orientation, then following the schedule outlined in this brochure. Each session will provide an analysis of major areas of identified community concerns as well as train the participants in specific leadership skills.

There will also be opportunities for decision making and problem solving through group processes. Class members will meet with leaders from throughout the community to discuss the issues.

The overall program has been designed jointly by the Leadership Tuscaloosa Steering Committee made up of recent graduates of Leadership Tuscaloosa and the staff of the College of Continuing Studies at The University of Alabama.

 

The cost of tuition per participant for Leadership Tuscaloosa will be $895.00 payable at the time application is made for enrollment. The Leadership Tuscaloosa application must be completed and a photo submitted. Following review of all applications, an interview may be utilized.

 

Partial scholarships to qualified applicants will be available. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of : 1) Overall qualifications; 2) ability of employer to pay all or part of tuition; 3) need based on evaluation of applicant’s interview and scholarship application. Scholarships will be offered only at the discretion of The Leadership Tuscaloosa Alumni Association and Steering Committee. Note: Even if applying for a scholarship, tuition check must accompany the application to the program.
